What is CNC Machining?

CNC Machining is a subtractive manufacturing method that uses cutting tools to remove material from a block of raw material or a pre-existing part (such as a 3D-printed part when very tight tolerances are needed in specific areas).

Capacity = Speed

Our capacity allows us to create CNC-machined parts with unrivaled speed.

At the same time, our experienced engineers ensure the highest standards with cutting-edge software and equipment.

Capacity = Variety

We operate more than 20 state-of-the-art machining centers with a wide variety of CNC equipment such as single-axis lathes.

Single-axis lathes are ideal for executing round parts such as nozzles, engine components, and thread shafts.

Our CNC machining centers also utilize cutting-edge 5-axis machines, which substantially reduce turnaround time by eliminating intermediate setups and enabling undercuts and off-axis features.

CNC Machining Is Complementary to Technology

We also utilize CNC Machining as a valuable secondary operation for our 3D printed parts that require boring, drilling, face milling, or other precision machining for enhancing features.

We are dedicated to providing the fastest CNC machining in the industry, with projects programmed and starting the same day as ordered.

Precise Finishing for CNC Machined Parts

We offer a variety of expertly applied finishing options to improve the mechanical and aesthetic properties of your CNC machine component, including painting, anodizing, EMI and RFI shielding, and hand polishing.

General questions? Engineering questions? Need help with your design?

Frequently Asked Questions About CNC Machining

How large a part can your CNC machines accommodate?

We offer cutting-edge CNC machining with single-cut envelopes up to 84”, 40”, and 36”. but that’s not a limit on the size of your project.

One advantage of partnering with Jamesli Direct Manufacturing is that we have expertise in breaking up complex designs into multiple components, which we can later assemble.

What are your standard tolerances for CNC machined parts?

Standard tolerances for CNC machined parts are +/- 0.005” or 0.001”/”, whichever is greater. In some circumstances, tighter tolerances can be achieved depending on part design.

Wide Range of Surface Finishes for You

Choose multiple surface finishes for your machined parts. Add finishes to protect your custom CNC parts from harsher environments.

We can hold machined surface roughness tolerance from 3.2 – 16 mm. This does not provide a protective barrier to environmental effects such as rusting.

There are varying types of anodized. This is a colored finished and the chosen will define the type.

Powder Coat

This is more resistant to chipping than regular paint. The color is retained and the powder coat has much thicker layers than wet paints.

This finish uses nitric or citric acid and removes free iron from the surface. It protects the surface with a chemical for functions as a rust preventative.

Titanium Anodize

This surface finish changes the oxide layer in a titanium surface using an electric current. If it is not treated after machining, it will create titanium dust when rubbed together.

This provides a brighter finish for the machined surface. It is used to polish or deburr metal parts.

Electroless Nickel Plating

The use of electricity on metal surfaces to protect from corrosion or radiation.

Silver Plating

Put over a copper surface to protect it from oxidation (rusting).

Zinc Plating

Protects metal from rust even when scrapped because zinc does not rust. The product is dipped into molten zinc.

Standard Tolerances for CNC Machining in Jamesli

Precision is key in many industries. If you have a product that must fit with or in another part to create a finished part, then machined tight tolerances are imperative. CNC machined product adheres to the measurements needed for processes after order completion. The tolerance that can be held with plastics and metals is all less than a sheet of paper.
